What: The 2nd Heart of Gold Awards Dinner of the Rotary Club of Oakland Sunrise
When: May 22, 2010, 6pm-9pm
Where: Claremont Hotel – Claremont Room
Each year the Rotary Club of Oakland Sunrise hosts its Heart of Gold Award event, honoring leaders for their work in the area of community service. This year, we are honoring Judge Gail Bereola for her work in Juvenile Restorative Justice and current Rotary District Governor Loren Harper, for his commitment to fostering world peace and support of orphans.
During last year’s Heart of Gold event, we honored Mr. Morrie Turner, creator of “Wee Pals” and a Rotarian, Mr. Karl Stucki, for their long-term, local and international work with special-needs children. Through live and silent auctions we raised funds which were allocated to three highlighted international and local community programs.
This year’s Heart of Gold II theme is “Youth @ Risk”. With youth violence in Oakland on an upward trend, Rotary, along with leading community organizations, intends to help curb and reverse this trend. We will also continue our spotlight on both local and international “children with special needs” programs and projects.
This year, we encourage you to help us raise even more funds to support leading youth violence prevention and children with special needs programs
